Dear Admiral Fog-Bottom,
We owe you an apology. Our staff has reviewed FogWatch.com, and we agree that it is indeed one of the worst Web sites we have ever seen.
You've enumerated the site's failings quite well in your letter. Might I add some of my own:
* In addition to the inexplicable orange streaks, the FogCam appears to break down frequently, with hours passing between updates
* Your restaurant reviews are low brow and shallow, and 50% consist of reviews of burger joints. My question is, why no McDonalds or Burger King reviews?
* Your "Sights" listings are similarly meager, and focus exclusively on attractions of a nautical nature, ignoring the 99.995% of San Francisco visitors who wish to see something other than rusting ships and rotting docks.
* The stories...well, as a newspaperman, I have to say I was shocked and appalled. You've set new lows for journalism, even for a Web site.
* I don't believe a word of the "About" section, purportedly a history of FogWatch.com and the HMS FogWatch. This site is probably run by a bored programmer who lost his last dot-com job and is waiting tables for a living.
In short, FogWatch.com is an Internet train wreck that truly does rank with the worst of the dot-com era. We will be sure to include your site with our next review of bad Web sites...assuming FogWatch is still around by then.
