Dear Farmer's Almanac,

I am much chagrined to read your recent rating of the cities with the best weather in the U.S. Your rating system clearly is biased toward those locales with a preponderance of severe sunlight, a harsh and uncomfortable phenomenon when compared to the cool, soothing effects of fog.

For the benefit of our readers, the Almanac's "Best Weather" list is as follows:

BEST Weather Cities: (One being best) 1. Yuma, Arizona 2. Las Vegas, Nevada 3. Phoenix, Arizona 4. El Paso, Texas 5. Reno, Nevada 6. Albuquerque, New Mexico 7. Winslow, Arizona 8. Bishop, California 9. Bakersfield, California 10. San Diego, California.

I have never been to Yuma, Arizona, and I am sure that it is a fine city. But, as your own article mentions, Yuma is a victim of extreme temperatures. To wit:

"The only drawback is the extreme afternoon summer temperatures, which average at least 100ºF from June 4 to September 24, and 105ºF from June 22 to August 26. But, hey, it’s a dry heat!"

A dry heat indeed! I would posit that your rating system is dramatically out of kilter with the meteorological preferences of the majority of Americans.

To prove my point, I have asked the HMS FogWatch's resident weather expert, Baron Helmut von Badde-Veather, to develop a FogWatch.com list of the Best Weather cities.

Said list shall be forthcoming and will be posted to FogWatch.com as soon as von Badde-Veather's calculations are completed. This should occur within a fortnight.

Your Admiral,

Rear Admiral Phineas Fogg-Bottom
